The Jawbone 2 is out and running strong!  This is the newest version of the wildly popular Jawbone 1 by Aliph.  This is about half the size of the original Jawbone and adds some awesome features that where missing form the original Jawbone.  One of the biggest complaints of the original Jawbone was the size.  I was very excited to see the new Jawbone was half the size of the original.  Both of my Jawbones are connected to a Motorola Qc9 on the Sprint network.  The Motorola has a very strong Bluetooth signal especially when paired with the Jawbone which is equally as strong.

The Jawbone comes in several different colors: black, pink, light blue, gold and silver.  There are also some nice accessories you can order like: car charger w/ cable, second wall charger, and extra ear loops & earbuds.

Hardware Specifications:

Weight: < 1 oz. (with hear hook)
Bluetooth version 2.0 (Nice)
Battery Type: Rechargeable
Charging Time:  Around 50-55 minutes.
Talk time: around 4 hours
Standby time: around 8 days
Range: Up to 33ft line of sight open room 40 ft.

The Jawbone has no buttons that you can see. There is an area in the middle that you press to power on & off the unit.  There is also a button on the back of the unit where you control some of the newest functions.

1/2 the size of original.

1/2 the size of original.

New Functions:

Voice activated calling.
Call reject.
Change volume.
Turn noise assassin off & on.
Redial.

The main button allows you to control answering an income call, turning off LED (important), answering a call, & turning the headset on & off.

I did find that the Jawbone 2 felt a little flimsy even thought it is made of tough medical equipment plastic.  I also found it difficult to manipulate the earpiece without ending a call accidentally.  When you grab the top and bottom to adjust the fit the main button in the middle is just sensitive enough to end you call.  Once you get in the habit of adjusting the earpiece you will not have that problem any more.  This is opposite of the original where you had to press firmly on the middle button to get it to work.

Jawbone includes:

Headset
4 Earloops
3 Earbuds
USB Cable
Quick Start Guide
Wall Charger

Sound quality is excellent but not as good as the original. I would rate the sound quality a nine out of ten, not too shabby.  Comfort is excellent, it is so light you will forget it is on your ear until it startles you with a ring.  The wind has a big effect on the Jawbone, like all Bluetooth earpieces they suck in the wind.  Most of the time I have to press mute to hear the person talking and turn my back to the wind when it’s time to answer the person.

In conclusion I find that I do like the Jawbone 2 over the original Jawbone. I find the sure weight of the unit to be very pleasing and comfortable to wear for long periods of time.  The sound quality doesnít bother me enough to worry about if I should switch back to the original Jawbone.  I do think it is over price at $130.00 (at time of my purchase), but hey if you have a superior product and you know it then you can charge a little more for it.  Right?  Well I think if it was priced twenty dollars less and ten dollars more than most of the other competition that would be the perfect place.
